Main Street Reconstruction

Project Summary:
The City of Evansville Engineering Department is leading the Main Street Reconstruction Project. The project began Monday, August 21, and will include rebuilding the driving lane of the 200 and 300 Blocks of Main Street. Concrete will replace the existing brick in the driving lane. The project will also repair miscellaneous spaces in the parking lane where brick has been damaged or is missing. The Downtown Evansville Economic Improvement District (EID) is working with the City of Evansville to communicate the project timeframe and its impact on consumer and visitor experiences.

Businesses on both blocks are open for business! Sidewalks are open and pedestrian traffic will remain unaffected. Residents and visitors will continue to have access to building entrances.

Project Timeline:

The project will be completed in two phases:

  • From Third Street to Fourth Street: August 21 until October 13
  • Second Street to Third Street: October 2 until November 17

The white border represents the EID Service Area: Parcels within the EID Boundaries fund our work through an annual assessment levied on tax bills. Properties that front Main Street pay a higher rate, commensurate with the additional services they receive.

Alternative Routes:
Motorists are advised to be aware of construction signs, follow posted detour routes, and exercise caution while driving near the construction zone. Please plan for potential delays and consider alternative routes if possible.

Alternative Parking Options:
Street parking is available on connecting streets (Third Street and Fourth Street). Please be advised that the posted limits are not enforced after 5 PM weekdays and on weekends. For more parking options visit our Parking & Transportation webpage.

Special Promotions & Activations:
